Evening folks,
Well, we are in day 3 of our Global Bible Month Challenge, tonight we’re in James chapter 3 were James teaches us about the impact our tongues have on our lives and the importance of wisdom.
In verses 1 through 12, James begins by warning us about the responsibility of being teachers, reminding us that with great knowledge comes great accountability. If you’re teaching, be prepared, your words can lead others astray or uplift them. He compares our words to a small spark that can ignite a huge fire. Folks, here is something to think about, our words can shape lives and influence others dramatically, a single comment can build someone up or tear them down. We need to be mindful of what we say. James also points out that while we can tame animals, controlling our tongues is much harder. Our speech can be both a source of blessing and cursing, We bless God with one breath and curse others with the next breath. Folks, this reveals a deep issue within our hearts. If we want to change our speech, we must first examine our hearts.
In verses 13 through 18, James contrasts earthly wisdom with heavenly wisdom. Earthly wisdom is characterized by envy and selfish ambition, leading to disorder and chaos. In contrast, heavenly wisdom is pure, peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. James encourages us to seek wisdom from above, which fosters harmony and good deeds. So, which kind of wisdom are you embracing in your life?
That’s about it for chapter 3. Tomorrow, Tuesday, we’ll be in chapter 4. Share your thoughts or questions with us. Until tomorrow, y’all have a blessed evening!
