It’s day 4 and we’re in James chapter 4, where James addresses some critical issues that can arise in our lives and relationships.
In verses 1 through 6, He begins by confronting the source of conflicts and quarrels among us. He asks, “What causes fights and quarrels among you?” The answer? Desires that battle within us. We often want things that lead to strife, whether it’s power, recognition, or material possessions. Instead of seeking fulfillment in God, we chase after our selfish desires. James emphasizes the importance of humility. He points out that we don’t have because we don’t ask. And even when we do ask, we may not receive because we ask with wrong motives, seeking to spend what we get on our pleasures. This should remind us the need for self-reflection in our prayers and intentions. Then, he warns us that friendship with the world as enmity against God. This isn’t about enjoying life but about prioritizing worldly values over divine principles. James reminds us that God yearns for our loyalty and gives grace to the humble.
In verses 7 through 10, He encourages us to submit to God, resist the devil, and draw near to Him. This is an invitation to develop a deeper relationship with God, leading to spiritual strength and resilience against temptation.
In verses 11 and 12, James warns against judging others. When we criticize or condemn our brothers and sisters, we put ourselves in a position only God should occupy. Instead, we should focus on our own actions and strive for personal growth.
In verses 13 through 17, James starts by addressing those who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit.” He highlights a common mindset: Folks. we often make plans as if we have complete control over our future, but James reminds us that life is uncertain and to approach life with humility and dependence on God. Our plans should always be held loosely, recognizing that God’s will is paramount. It’s not just about what you want to do, it’s about what God wants for you.
Well folks that’s about it for chapter 4! Tomorrow, Wednesday we’ll finish the book of James. Y’all have a blessed evening!
