Today is day 6 of our Global Bible Month Challenge, where we are reading 1 chapter a day for 30 days. We began with James and read through to 3rd John. Today we begin 1st Peter where Peter starts with a message about hope, holiness, and the transformative power of faith.
Peter begins by addressing believers that are scattered across various regions, reminding them of their identity as chosen people. He opens with a powerful declaration, we are born again into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Peter is reminding us that our true identity is rooted in Jesus and that our hope isn’t just any hope, it’s a hope that endures beyond trials and tribulations.
In verse 3, He also speaks about the inheritance awaiting us, an imperishable, undefiled, and unfading treasure kept in heaven. Folks, this assurance encourages us to remain steadfast, knowing that our ultimate reward is secure. It’s a reminder that earthly struggles are temporary, but our heavenly inheritance is eternal.
In verse 15, Peter tells us to live in holiness. He quotes the Old Testament, instructing us to be holy as God is holy. Folks, this call to holiness isn’t about perfection, it’s about striving to reflect God’s character in our daily lives.
In verse 18, Peter emphasizes that our faith is refined through suffering. Just as gold is purified by fire, our faith becomes stronger through challenges. Folks, this is very crucial for us to understand because it shifts our perspective on hardships. Instead of viewing them as setbacks, we can see them as opportunities for growth and deeper reliance on God.
Peter continues with the powerful reminder of the cost of our redemption…. the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Folks, this underscores the value of our salvation and compels us to live in gratitude and reverence.
Folks, Peter is reminding us embrace our living hope, understand the purpose be hind our trials, strive for holiness, and cherish the incredible gift of salvation we’ve received through Jesus Christ.
Well that’s about it for chapter 1. I know I didn’t touch on everything Peter said, but I have a idea or remedy about that when this challenge is over. I’ll tell you about it later. Tomorrow, Friday we’ll be in chapter 2. Until then have a blessed evening!
