Today is day 7 of our Global Bible Challenge and we’re in 1 Peter chapter 2, where Peter gives us a powerful message about our identity and purpose as believers. He begins by urging us to “rid ourselves of all malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander.” Folks, this sets the tone for a life rooted in integrity and authenticity.
In verse 4, Peter then describes believers as “living stones,” being built into a spiritual house, emphasizing our role in God’s kingdom. Folks we’re not just isolated individuals but part of a greater community, with Jesus as the cornerstone. This is essential for our faith!
In verse 9, Peter reminds us that we are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people. Folks, we have direct access to God and a responsibility to serve others. We’re called to declare the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His wonderful light. Our transformation is not just for ourselves …. it’s a testimony to the world! Peter doesn’t shy away from the reality of suffering. He encourages us to endure hardships with grace, following Christ’s example. Jesus faced rejection and suffering, yet He responded with love and forgiveness. Jesus is our model for how to handle our own trials.
In verse 11, Peter emphasizes the importance of living good lives among non-believers. Folks, our actions should reflect our faith, so that even those who oppose us may see our good deeds and glorify God.
That’s it for chapter 2, remember that our identity as living stones in God’s house, and our role as a royal priesthood, we must endure suffering with grace, and live out our faith authentically. Tomorrow, Saturday, we’ll be in chapter 3. Until then, have a blessed evening!
