Today is day 8 of Global Bible Month Challenge and we’re in 1st Peter chapter 3 where Peter teaches us about relationships, suffering, and the power of faith.
In verses 1 through 7, Peter begins by addressing the dynamics of marriage. He encourages wives to be respectful and submissive to their husbands and the importance of inner beauty over outward appearance. He instructs husbands to honor, and be considerate and respectful toward their wives, recognizing them as equals and partners in faith. Folks, Peter is telling us what the foundation for a strong marriage is, …. we must respect and honor our spouse, have love and understanding, and be supportive. If you don’t understand what love really is, Paul tell us that Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
In verses 8 through 17, Peter urges all believers to live harmoniously, showing compassion and humility. He emphasizes that responding to evil with good is crucial. Folks, this is how we reflect Christ’s love in a world that often seems hostile, by cultivating a spirit of peace and kindness, even when faced with adversity. Peter continues by encouraging us by telling us that suffering is part of our Christian journey. He reassures us that when we suffer for doing good, we are blessed. Folks, Peter is reminding us about Jesus’ teaching from the Sermon on the Mount, that trials can strengthen our faith, and always be prepared to give an answer for our hope that we have in Jesus Christ but to do so with gentleness and respect.
In verses 18-22, Peter gives us the ultimate example of suffering…. Jesus Christ Himself! He suffered for our sins, offering us salvation, restoring our relationship with God, and the path to eternal life. Folks, our suffering and struggles has purpose and hope …… they lead us closer to Jesus!
Well folks, that’s all I have to say right now on chapter 3. Tomorrow, Sunday, we’ll be in chapter 4. Until then, y’all have a blessed evening!
