Thoughts From 1st John 5:21

Today is day 18 of our Global Bible Month Challenge and we’re in 1st John chapter 5, where John ends his letter with a simple, yet powerful command… Avoid idols!

“Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.”
1 John 5:21

I know most of us would not think of bowing down to statues, but idols aren’t just physical statues or images. An idol is anything that takes the place of God in our hearts. It could be money, relationships, success, possessions, or even social media. Folks, anything we prioritize over our relationship with God can become an idol. We need to be constantly examining our hearts and ask ourselves…. “What’s competing for God’s rightful place?” Then confess those idols and choose to prioritize God in every area of our lives by filling our lives with God’s Word, prayer, worship, study, and fellowship. Folks, these are vital in keeping our hearts aligned with God. Stay blessed and keep your hearts focused on what brings you closer to God!
