Global Bible Month Challenge Day 11

Today is day 11 of the Global Bible Month Challenge and we’re in 2 Peter chapter 1, where Peter teaches us about the importance of growing in faith and virtue.

In verses 2 through 4, Peter begins by reminding us that through God’s divine power, we have everything we need for a godly life. Folks, by God’s divine power, the Holy Spirit, equips us for spiritual growth, transformation, and to live righteously.

In verses 5 through 11, Peter urges us to actively pursue virtues …. faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love. Each one of theses quality builds upon the last, creating a character that reflects Jesus Christ. Folks, it’s not enough to just believe, we must actively develop these traits in our lives. Peter warns us that lacking these qualities leads to spiritual blindness and forgetfulness of our salvation. Folks, spiritual growth is essential otherwise we can lose sight of our purpose and identity in Jesus Christ.

In verses 16 through 21, Peter reassures us of the certainty of God’s promises. He reminds us that the prophetic word is reliable, that they are not just clever stories but divinely inspired truth. Folks, that is why understanding Scripture is crucial, it anchors our faith and guides our lives. Peter ends the chapter by encouraging us to make every effort to confirm our calling and election. By doing so, we will never stumble and will be richly welcomed into the Kingdom of God.

That’s all I have for chapter 1. Tomorrow, Wednesday, we’ll look at chapter 2. Until then, reflect Jesus’ love in your lives, and have blessed evening.
